Some, any, every en no zijn best vage woorden die je gebruikt als bijvoorbeeld geen precieze hoeveelheid is gegeven of als je niet precies weet waar het over gaat.

Some:

• een aantal, enkele en/of wat
• je gebruikt dit woord en de compounds meestal in:

1. bevestigende zinnen
2. vragen waarop het antwoord ‘ja’ is
3. vragen waarmee je iets aanbiedt

• "Would you like some tea?"
• "There is still some cake in the kitchen."

 

Any:

Any:

• een aantal, enkele en/of wat
• Je gebruikt dit woord en de compounds in:

1. de meeste vragen
2. de meeste ontkenningen

• "Is there any milk in the fridge?"
• "I don't know if anyone is home."

Any en every

Any and every betekenen allebei 'elk' en/of 'iedere'.

Onderscheid:

• - any; 'iedere willekeurige'
• - every; 'letterlijk alle'
  
  
• - "You can come by any day you want."
  
• - "I have cleaned everything." 

No

No:

• - wordt gebruikt als kortere vorm van 'not any'
• - compounds van no (nothing, no one etc) gebruik je vooral als je iets wilt zeggen met extra nadruk
  
  
• - "I have no news on his whereabouts."
• - "Nothing makes me as happy as going on a holiday."
