1. Past Simple

1. How to make past simple? I/you/we/they/she/he/it + Verb-ed

2. When to use past simple? a series of actions that happened one after the other

3. Examples:

• The referee blew his whistle and the game started
• He got up and put on his trainers

When to use the past simple?

2. Past continuous

How to make the past continuous? 

• She/he/it + was + verb-ing
• you/we/they + were +  verb -ing

When to use the past continuous?

1. to set the scene. For example: Chris was competing in a 20 kilometre race in Kenya 
2. when a short action (past simple) interrupted a longer unfinished action (past continuous). For example: I was sleeping when you called me.
