ATL FORMATIVE CRITERION D Unit 3 “Me divierto en mi ciudad

What is this task about?

You will make the storyboard of a comic strip and will choose for this an online tool. You can use this storyboard afterwards to create your Summative Assessment D.

What is a storyboard? In simple terms, a storyboard is a sequence of sketches or illustrations that map out the scenes planned for a video, or in this case, a comic.

The ATL Formative task
  • Download here the formative task description
  • Make your own copy and work in it
  • You will upload this document, completed, before the end of the lesson.
  • We will do each step in a guided way

Step 1
Read carefully and in silence the summative task description and write in your Formative assessment-ATL document a very short story based on it. Use your imagination. Give the possible characters a name and think of a possible beginning and end (do this in English)

“A new Spanish-speaking student has just arrived in Amsterdam and he/she is going to study at the AICS. You need to introduce your city and school to this new student”.

Example:
Beginning: “Juanita is a Spanish girl who is going to stay in Amsterdam for a year. Our mentor asked me (Ana) to be her buddy…”
End: “... we decided to meet this weekend to go to the shopping mall in Amstelveen.

No imagination now? Write something general, you can change it later.

Be patient, questions at the end.

Step 2
Read again the summative task instructions and think of the possible places and situations to develop the content:
The instructions are:
“Create a comic in Spanish that includes the following information:
  • Introduction (name, age, nationality) of the comic’s main characters
  • Tell the new student what your daily routine and hobbies are
  • Describe the city you live in
  • Give directions on how to arrive at the AICS starting from the student’s house
  • Explain where the music room and library are in your school
  • Invite the new student to go to the cinema. Set the time and place.
  • The Spanish-speaking student should make a comment to compare his/her city to the city of Amsterdam
  • The Spanish-speaking student should make a comment to compare the weather in his/her country to the weather in Amsterdam”

Make a list in your Formative ATL document with possible places an situations
Example:
  1. The introduction can happen in the classroom. I ask her in Spanish her name and where she is from.
  2. Talking about daily routine could happen in the hallway or perhaps in front of the school...

Write all your places and situations in your Formative ATL document.

Step 3. The storyboard.
Write simple short dialogues in Spanish (you will write longer ones and will correct your spelling later). For the Summative Assessment you need to create between 10-12 panels and they should contain 100-150 words in total.

To keep it simple we have put the same image in the storyboard of your Formative, but of course once you start doing the comic you need to create different images for each situation

Write all your DIALOGUES in your Formative ATL document.

Step 4 (last one)
Now you have to choose an online tool to create your comic. But first you have to evaluate them on the appropriateness to this task. Evaluate the online tools in the table below and complete the table. Make sure you choose an appropriate one for this task and that it's friendly enough for you to work with it. Can you download your work afterwards? Can you create at least 10 panels and download them? Write your evaluation in your document.,

ATL-SKILLS SELF-EVALUATION

How would you evaluate yourself for both ATL skills?
Do the self-evaluation at the end of the document and explain why you chose that option.

Upload your Formative Assessment ATL to Managebac.

Use the checklist included to make sure you are including all the info asked in the Summative Assessment description.
