We have discussed reported speech (statements). Today we are going to discuss reported questions and commands!

Reported Speech: Questions

Direct speech: Tim:"Where do you live?"

Rep speech: Tim asked me..............

Direct speech: Tim: "Do you like Fornite's theme song?"

Rep speech: Tim asked me ..............

Difference?

Reported Speech: Questions

Direct speech: "Where do you live?"

Rep speech:  Tim asked me where I lived.

Direct speech: "Do you know Fornite's theme song?"

Rep speech: Tim asked me if/whether I knew Fortnite's theme song.

Similar	Different
They both use 'ask' and 'me'	The first one is a WH question The second one is a YES/NO question -> if/whether

Reporting Commands

• Verb + object/subject + (not) + to + infinitive

Examples:

Direct	Reported
Write on the board.	The teacher told me to write on the board.
Do not write on the board.	The teacher told me not to write on the board.

You are going on a hike with your class and teacher. Report the teacher's command: 'Go to your tents when I ask you to.'

1. The teacher told us to go to our tents.
2. The teacher tell us to go to our tents.
3. The teacher told us to go to your tents.

You are going on a hike with your class and teacher. Report the teacher's command: 'Put your torches away. You don't need them.'

1. The teacher told us to put our torches away.
2. The teacher told us to put your torches away.
3. The teacher told us: put your torches away.

You are going on a hike with your class and teacher. Report the teacher's command: 'Don't wander off alone.'
