3.2 Comparatives & Superlatives

Comparative = vergrotende trap 

Superlative = overtreffende trap 

We gebruiken de trappen van vergelijking om twee of meer dingen met elkaar te vergelijken. We veranderen dan het bijvoeglijke naamwoord. We delen de bijvoeglijke naamwoorden in in categorieën.

Woorden zoals cool, nice, fit, lazy krijgen dan:

Comparative: -er

Superlative: -est

Adjective met 3 of meer lettergrepen

Woorden zoals original, beautiful, expensive:

Past Simple

Use: something happened, and we know exactly when it happened.

Rule: +    regular: verb+ed               Irregular: own form 

            -    didn't + verb                     

            ?    Did ... + verb      

Keywords: yesterday, five years ago, in 2011, last week, month, year. 

Present Perfect

Use: something happened, but time is unknown/unimportant.

or 

something started in the past, but it is not clear if it has finished (maybe it is still happening!). 

Present Perfect

Use: something happened, but time is unknown/unimportant.

E.g.: "I have been to Italy twice."

Present Perfect

Use: something happened, but time is unknown/unimportant.

E.g.: "I have been to Italy twice."

De focus ligt op de gebeurtenis, en we weten dat het verleden tijd is, maar we weten niet WANNEER precies het gebeurd is.

Present Perfect

Use: something happened, but time is unknown/unimportant.

Rule: +    I/you/we/they > have + 3rd form 

                  She/he/it (SHIT) > has + 3rd form

            -    haven't + 3rd form                    hasn't + 3rd form

            ?    Have... + 3rd form                     Has ... + 3rd form

Keywords: already, just, (not) yet, for, since. 

1. Present Continuous

Use: plan/future arrangement (you often mention time/place/date)

Form: to be (is/am/are) + verb+ing

Examples: 

I am working this weekend, because a colleague is sick. 

She is flying to Spain this Summer.

2. To be going to

Use: future intentions (you have decided to do something and tell other people about it)

Form: to be (is/am/are) + going to + verb

Examples: 

I am going to visit my sister in Spain. 

Look at the clouds! It is going to rain! 

3. Future Simple: Will + verb

Use: 1. spontaneous decision (spontaan besluit)

Form: Will + Verb 

Examples: 

Is the TV too loud? I will turn it off! 

My mom will kill me if she sees the mess in my room.
