You can talk about things that happened in the past BEFORE something else happened.

When to use

Als er iets gebeurd is in het verleden, VOOR een andere gebeurtenis in het verleden.

(De eerste gebeurtenis wordt dan vervoegd met de Past Perfect  en de volgende gebeurtenis met de Past Simple.)
