Good afternoon B3A!
Please grab a pen/pencil and write down the following on the piece of paper on your table:
What kind of music do you listen to?
Write down your 3 favourite artists! (Or artists that you like)

Slide 1 - Slide

How are we feeling on a scale of 1 to 9?
Raise your hand!

Slide 2 - Slide

What are your favourite artists?
One at a time!
Tell me about one of the artists you wrote down.
Why do you like them?

Slide 3 - Slide

Why did I ask you to write down your favourite artists?
Well, I want to talk about one of my favourite artists as well!
                                                                                                    (This guy)  ----->
His name is Ren (Gill)!

He's one of my favourite artists because most of his
lyrics (songteksten) tell a story.

And Ren also has a bit of a strange life's story.
But before we talk about that.... lets listen to
some of his music!

Slide 4 - Slide

Before we listen...
Please remain as quiet as possible (so everyone can hear the song!)

At the start of the video there's some text at the bottom. If you read/listen closely you might get an idea of what happened to Ren. Try and challenge yourself!

While the video is playing I will hand out chromebooks. You may log in, and go to lessonup.app. But please don't do anything else with them yet.

Slide 5 - Slide

Slide 6 - Video

Did you guys like the song?
Why/Why not? Raise your hand of course!

Slide 7 - Slide

Now we're going to watch Ren talk about his life.
Please log into the LessonUp on LessonUp.app (.app not .com!) if you haven´t yet!

While we watch the video questions will appear on the screen.
Each question will appear twice. Once to prepare, the second time you will answer.
Sometimes a question will say: 'Discuss' this means we will talk about it in the class.

Please do not talk during the video! There are some harder words in there and I want everyone to be able to follow along.

Slide 22 - Open question

This part had a couple of tricky words, so let me quickly explain:
'Cognitive dissonance' is als je twee tegenstrijdige gedachten tegelijkertijd hebt. Ren werd verteld dat zijn symptomen door zijn depressie kwamen, terwijl zijn depressie juist door zijn symptomen kwam.

Slide 28 - Slide

Discuss: What made Ren decide not to commit suicide as well?

Slide 29 - Slide

Lets talk about that....
First things first, I want to talk about the topic of suicide.
2 years ago, 1,916 people committed suicide in this country. Almost twice as many men committed suicide compared to women. That's five people every day.

If you're struggling with mental health or anxiety you can call 'de kinder telefoon' at 0800-0432
If you're struggling with suicidal thoughts, you can call 113 or talk to someone over chat at 113.nl
If there is anything you want to talk about, your teachers here are always available if you need help.

Finally, if you suspect someone you know struggles with something like this, reach out. Talk to them.

Slide 30 - Slide

On that (somewhat depressing) note.
What did you think of today's lesson?
Would you like to do something like this again?
Would you like to hear more about Ren's story? (There's 8 chapters total)
