Metaphors & Analogies

• Metaphors & Similes = Analogies (comparing 2 things)
• Metaphor = Comparison that doesn't have to be perfectly accurate (poetically saying something is something else)
• Simile = Literal comparison of 2 things (something is like something else)

Example

Metaphor:      Joe is a pig.

Simile:             Joe is as dirty as a pig.

Analogy:       Joe's sense of personal hygiene is on the same       level  as a pig that rolls around in dirt and mud all day.

She swims very fast.
You could say she swims like a fish.
