Industrial Revolution

•  = Society shifts from using tools to make products, to using new sources of energy to power machines in factories.
  
• This shift is so big we call it a revolution and it's the start of the modern age.

Why was Britain the first?

• England: Iron and Coal
• Colonies: Cotton

• England: large landowners
• Colonies: merchants

3. Work Force in factories

• England: The Agricultural Revolution left many farmers without a job.

4. Market to sell goods

• Colonies all over the world.

•  Steam engines were too large and expensive for cottage industry and were placed in factories. 
• Close to water and coal.
