They ruled much of the middle east and large parts of North Africa from around 1453 to 1918.They are from a group of central Asian Turkish speaking tribes. In their initial stages of expansion, the Ottomans were leaders of the Turkish warriors for the faith of Islam, known by the honorific title Ghazi.
