Adjectives
An adjective (bijvoegelijk naamwoord) 
says something about a 
noun (zelfstandig naamwoord) :

A beautiful young woman.

A fast red car.

Adverbs
Adverbs are mostly formed by putting -LY behind an adjective:

Beautiful becomes beautifully;
extreme becomes extremely.
(BUT:
fast remains fast
hard remains hard)
