Read the following text:
Sarah's cat loves to sleep on the neighbor's porch. The children's toys were scattered across the yard after they played all afternoon. At sunset, the colors of the sky were beautiful. Sarah borrowed her friend's book to read during the weekend. By the end of the day, the birds' chirping grew quieter as night fell.

Wanneer gebruik je 's?
1. mensen/dieren in het enkelvoud
> Lisa's bag was stolen.
> The boy's phone is brand new.
2. mensen/dieren in het meervoud die niet eindigen met S.
> The children's names are unique.
> The people's opinions are harsh.
3. uitdrukkingen van tijd.
> An hour's walk.
> Two week's holiday.

Wanneer gebruik je ' ?
1. mensen/dieren in het meervoud die eindigen met een s.
> My sisters' books are heavy. (De boeken van mijn zussen zijn zwaar.)
> Our cats' bowls are dirty. ( De voerbakken van onze katten zijn vies.)

Let op! bij namen die eindigen met een S mag je beide gebruiken.
> James' dog is old.
> James's dog is old. 
(onthoud gewoon: als een mens/dier eindigt met een S dan alleen ')

1. Bij dingen of locaties.
> The colour of the bridge.
> The most popular attraction of the city.
> The capitol of the state.
>The city of Los Angelos.

- mensen/dieren meervoud> My brothers' books. Our cats' food smells bad.

Je gebruikt 's bij:

mensen/dieren in het enkelvoud.
