Notes
When it is bold, it is really important!

Slide 6 - Slide

The Lötschental
The Lötschental is an area with a lot of relief (hoogteverschillen) and at the top a glacier.

Glacier: a large body of ice that slowly moves down a slope

Slide 7 - Slide

High mountain
  • Mountain range with peaks that are higher than 1,500 m
  • Most of the mountains in the Alpes are higher than 1500 m

Slide 8 - Slide

Relief

  • height differences in the mountains
  • you see the differences with colours

Slide 9 - Slide

Relief
  • Green : Lowland 0 – 200 m
  • Yellow:  Hills 200 – 500 m
  • Light brown: Medium mountains 500 – 1500 meter
  • Dark brown:  High mountains ranges above 1500 meter

Slide 10 - Slide

Glacier
  • A thick mass of ice created when snow on top of a mountain fails to melt
  • This slides down slowly, under pressure

Slide 11 - Slide

Elevation zones
Elevation zones = A vegetation zone on a mountain

Slide 17 - Slide

Schrijf de vraag en het antwoord in je schrift.
  1. Waarom groeit de bevolking?
  2. Hoe verschilt de groei van de bevolking per land?
  3. Waarom wonen op sommige plekken veel mensen?
  4. Waarom wonen op sommige plekken weinig mensen?
Elevation zone = A vegetation zone on a mountain. Created by differences in temperature. From low to high:
  • deciduous forest zone
  • coniferous forest zone
  • Alpine meadow = Above the tree line is the elevation zone where grass, herbs and low shrubs grow.
  • Rocky zone = The elevation zone where the weather is so cold and the ground is so hard that there is almost no vegetation
  • Perpetual snow

Slide 18 - Slide

Hoogteligging
Rule
The higher the colder
If you climb 1000 meters, it gets 6 degrees Celsius colder.

Explanation
Only when solar rays fall on the Earth's surface, they do give off their heat. As a result, the Earth's surface warms up and gives off heat itself now. The atmosphere is thus heated from below.
