What is a conversion?

  • In Islam – reversion rather than conversion, on declaration of the Shahadah
  • Christianity – the term ‘conversion’ never appears in the Bible. Preferred terms are ‘turning from/ to’ and ‘being saved’. However, the Bible gives many examples of conversion.

  • The experience of conversion may take various forms:
      - volitional: gradual
      - self-surrender: sudden

  • It is generally described as a direct, internal experience, validated by a subsequent change in behaviour and lifestyle.
