Present continuous: onvoltooid tegenwoordige tijd

Wanneer 1: om aan te geven dat iets nu gebeurt en nog een tijdje doorgaat in het heden

Voorbeeld: 

I am reading the newspaper right now.

He is laughing at me at the moment.

Wanneer 2: als iets je ergert

Voorbeeld: 

 That dog is always barking.

Wanneer 3: voor acties en gebeurtenissen die langer duren of niet afgelopen zijn.

Voorbeeld: 

My brother is learning to drive.

I am reading all the Harry Potter books this month.

Vorm: vorm van to be+werkwoord+ing

Werkwoorden die eindigen op een -e:

- to have: He is having dinner.

- to give: Our father is giving us many compliments.

--> de -e verdwijnt en je plakt -ing erachter.

Als het werkwoord 1 lettergreep is en het eindigt met een medeklinker verdubbel je de laatste letter.

Bijvoorbeeld:

Sit--> Sitting

Cut-->cutting

Hoe maak je de present continuous?

1. hele werkwoord + - ed
2. shit = hele werkwoord + -s
3. vorm van to be + ww+ -ing

Wat geef je aan met de present continuous?

1. Iets dat altijd, nooit of regelmatig gebeurt
2. Iets dat nu aan de gang is.
3. Iets dat is gebeurd in het verleden.
4. Iets dat nog gaat komen

Present continuous:
Pick the present continuous.

1. We are eating lunch at the cafeteria.
2. They have eaten lunch at the cafeteria before.
3. She ate lunch at the cafeteria.
4. He has eaten lunch at the cafeteria.

Present continuous

1. aan te geven dat iets NU aan de gang is. Signaalwoorden zijn o.a: "now, at the moment, listen..." enz.

2. aan te geven dat je iets van plan bent. Meestal staat er bij wanneer je in de toekomst dat van plan bent.

3. irritatie aan te geven

Maak de present continuous door: vorm van 'to be' (am/is/are) + ww+ ing
