When  to use which?
  • Past Simple = The action is finished.  It is important when it happened. Look out for words such as: Yesterday, in 2020, when I was little, last night, this morning......
  • Present Perfect = not important when it happened. Has some connection to today. Look out for words such as: just, lately, recently, since, yet

For example:
  • I have been to Spain 4 times.  (The connection is that I am still alive and may go again. The number could still increase).
  • I went to Spain in 2020 (This event has finished. I went there, 2020 is  over. )
