Wanneer:
als
  1. iets is gebeurd en het niet belangrijk is wanneer.
  2. iets in het verleden is begonnen en nog steeds doorgaat. In de zin staat dan vaak: since, for of in.
  3. iets in het verleden is gebeurd waarvan je nu het resultaat ziet.
  4. iets net of iets nog niet is gebeurd. In de zin staan dan vaak woorden als: just, lately, recently en yet.

  3.  na voorzetsels: vb. of, in etc.
  4.  na bepaalde uitdrukkingen: vb. it's no use trying, it's worth seeing, I look forward to meeting you

Must = persoonlijke noodzaak of kan echt niet anders.
must not/mustn't = niet moeten/mogen.

have to = moeten - verplicht van buitenaf.
don't/doesn't have to = niet hoeven.

Should = zou eigenlijk moeten
shouldn't = zou eigenlijk niet moeten.
ought to = zou eigenlijk moeten (maar sterker dan should en formeler)
