De meeste bijwoorden eindigen op –ly . Dat zijn meestal woorden die antwoord geven op de vraag: Hoe? Meestal vorm je deze bijwoorden door –ly achter een bijvoeglijk naamwoord te zetten.

EXCEPTIONS
Soms verandert er nog iets anders.
-y wordt -ily: happy wordt dus happily.
-le wordt -ly: simple wordt dus simply.
-ic wordt -ically: enthusiastic wordt dus enthusiastically.

Er zijn ook bijwoorden die niet op –ly eindigen. Veel van deze bijwoorden geven antwoord op de vraag Hoe vaak?
Een paar voorbeelden : always, already, also, ever, now, often, only, quite, rather, sometimes, then, too, very, even, never, so, still en yet
