Special Jobs: Nevin deMilliano, Storm Chaser
Nevin deMilliano is a professional storm chaser. He looks for storms and tornados in Canada to take the perfect photo! His storm obsession takes him all over the country.
There are about 80 tornados in Canada every year. Because Canada is so big, Nevin isn’t always in the right place at the right time. This year, he has been extremely lucky. Five tornados in one weekend!
Nevin is working in a team at the moment. They drive an armoured jeep with a weather computer, so they know where the storm is.
His advice is: ‘Don’t go chasing storms yourself, leave that to the experts. It can be really dangerous.’
Correct or incorrect?
Nevin heeft als hobby het jagen op stormen.
Nevin fotografeert stormen en tornado’s in Canada.
Nevin ziet ongeveer 80 tornado’s per jaar.
Nevin is altijd op tijd bij de storm.
Question...
Would Nevin organise such an adventure tour? Why or why not?

The East Coast?
St. John’s - East Coast
It all seems so nice and friendly with the jelly-bean coloured row houses in the streets. But think again. St. John’s is the winner of the prize for Canada’s worst weather city. Or should we say loser? The city has more wet, cold days than any other city in the country. Then why are there still so many tourists? The good thing is that St. John’s gets 84 days of snow every year. It’s the perfect place for winter activities like ice hockey and skiing.
Slide 36 - Slide
Or the West Coast?
Victoria - West Coast
Victoria has the mildest climate in Canada and the driest summers. There are more than 2000 hours of sunshine yearly. Imagine that! Victoria is the only large Canadian city where the temperature doesn’t drop below freezing. So, if you don’t like the cold, spend your winters in Victoria. It’s the perfect place for some whale watching, climbing or caving. No need to worry about the weather.
