[anyone lived in a pretty how town]
By e. e. cummings

anyone lived in a pretty how town
(with up so floating many bells down)
spring summer autumn winter
he sang his didn’t he danced his did.

Women and men(both little and small)
cared for anyone not at all
they sowed their isn’t they reaped their same sun moon stars rain

children guessed(but only a few
and down they forgot as up they grew
autumn winter spring summer)
that noone loved him more by more

when by now and tree by leaf
she laughed his joy she cried his grief
bird by snow and stir by still
anyone’s any was all to her
Theory + Instruction
Take a look at the handout. Read along with your teacher.

- Please, ask questions if something's unclear.
- Make sure you look at the criteria; it is minimal so you have a lot of freedom to make the video the way you want it!
- Some slides, like the previous one, have notes, which you can click on for additional information/explanation.

Film assignment
1. Choose a poem from the selection.
2. Take a seat and read the poem carefully; don't discuss with your neighbour! You may underline/highlight words that mean something to you.
3. Which feelings and thoughts pop in your head? Fill in the word web for yourself with words that describe your feelings and thoughts.
Done? Choose at least 6 words that you think describe your thoughts/feelings best.
4. With these words, you're going to make 6 shots of 10 seconds, which you need to compile later. You can ask your teacher to leave the classroom if you want (but keep track of time!).
5. You can edit and add music, the way you like it!
Tip: see the following slides for tips regarding the video editing.

Slide 14 - Slide

Don't be too hard on yourself because of the time limit: your thoughts and feelings are spontaneous, so should be your shots!

Try to think of this: what will be the first visual (in class, or outside of it) that you can link with the words in your wordweb? Go and take that shot!

Slide 15 - Video

Using InShot app for editing:

If you don't have prior experience working with editing apps/video editing, here's a short tutorial for a video editing app called InShot. Make sure you download it on your phone.

Slide 16 - Video

Inspiration:

Here's an example of a video, which is an interpretation of someone's thoughts and feelings after reading a poem.
After activity
In pairs, watch two videos of each other.  While watching, discuss the following points:
  • Do you see similarities in the videos? Can you explain?
  • Do you see differences in the videos? Can you explain?
  • Which shots appealed to you the most? Can you explain?
