Linking words

What are linking words?

• We gebruiken linking words om twee zinnen samen te voegen.
  
• Een paar voorbeelden: and, but & because.
  
•  Elke linking word heeft een andere betekenis, deze laat zien hoe de twee zinnen samengesteld zijn

A few examples

Hannah is doing her homework. She is listening to music.

--> Hannah is doing her homework and she is listening to music.

And is used as a linking word in this sentence. The second sentence is now an addition to the previous sentence.

A few examples

Frank posted the picture on Instagram. I didn't like it.

--> Frank posted the picture on Instagram, but I didn't like it.

But is used as a linking word in this sentence. The second sentence is now in contrast with the previous sentence.

A few examples

I read the newspaper sometimes. I want to know what's going on.

--> I read the newspaper sometimes, because I want to know what's going on. 

Because is used as a linking word in this sentence. The second sentence is now a reason for the previous sentence.
