Think about representation and stereotypes. You will probably think about ethnicity and cultural background as well. There are demonstrations in the USA. Are these in The Netherlands and other countries as well? #BlackLivesMatter? 

This lesson is about etnicity, background, police brutality & social media.

Wat is etniciteit?
 Je kent het woord misschien wel van “etnisch profileren” wat gebruikt wordt om aan te geven dat politie speciaal op mensen let met specifieke kenmerken, bijvoorbeeld “een jongeman met een Noord-Afrikaans uiterlijk”. 
Etniciteit gaat om een ’gevoel’ van onderlinge verbondenheid dat gebaseerd kan zijn op cultuur, taal, religie, nationaliteit en uiterlijke kenmerken. Het is, kortom, een idee van identiteit. Dat maakt het ook een lastig begrip. Want er bestaat niet maar één type Marokaan of Antilliaan of Jood. Maar door stereotypering van groepen mensen ontstaat het idee dat dat wel zo is.
