In het Engels kan je op meerdere manieren aangeven dat iets in de toekomst gebeurt. In dit overzicht bespreken we 2 van deze manieren:

Will + hele werkwoord

Am, are of is + going to + hele werkwoord

will + hele werkwoord

Will + hele werkwoord

Het hele werkwoord kan van alles zijn.

We will help you tomorrow.

I will listen to the teacher.

He will go to school next week.

You won't make it in time.

Will they come over tonight?

Will + hele werkwoord

Je gebruikt will + hele werkwoord wanneer je iets spontaan besluit of wanneer het een voorspelling is (iets zal waarschijnlijk gebeuren maar het is niet helemaal zeker)

Shall + hele werkwoord

Shall + hele werkwoord gebruik je alleen bij vragen met I of we.

Het gaat dan meestal om een beleefd verzoek of een beleefde vraag.

Shall we go to the cinema tonight?

Shall I come over this afternoon?

Will + hele werkwoord

will + hele werkwoord

Will kun je ook heel makkelijk afkorten, namelijk met 'll

I will -> I'll

They will -> they'll

to be going to + hele werkwoord

Going to + hele werkwoord

Als je iets van plan bent te gaan doen of je hebt bewijs voor je voorspelling (bijna zeker dat het gaat gebeuren) dan gebuik je :

am, are of is + going to + hele werkwoord

I am going to leave at 10 o'clock today.

We are going to go to a party tonight.

He is going to be too late

to be going to +hele ww

To be vervang je door am, is, are  afhankelijk van het onderwerp​: 

I=am, He,she,it=is 

we, you, they=are

Tom is going to swim. Tom is van plan om te zwemmen.​​

Ann and Mary ( be going to) swim too.​
