The rules

* 1 syllable: -er than / the -est

example: strange - stranger than - the strangest

* 2 syllables ending in -le, -er, -ow, -y, -some: -er than / the -est

example: simple - simpler than - the simplest

* 2 syllables  not ending in -le, -er, -ow, -y: more /most

example: careful - more careful than - the most careful

3 or more syllables: more ... than / the most

example: popular - more popular than - the most popular

Let op woorden die eindigen op een Y!

(medeklinker + y dan 'i' ipv 'y'

Let op! irregular!

goed - beter - best

slecht - slechter - slechtst(e)

(Vergrotende trap):

Vaak wordt het woord gevolgd door THAN

Frank is taller than Rob.

The boys are faster than us.

Superlative

(Overtreffende trap):

+EST

Vaak komt er voor het woord THE te staan

Rob is the tallest boy I know.

That is the fastest car ever.

Nog even dit:

net zo ....als....  = as...as...
(He is as tall as my dad)

niet zo ....als... = not as ....as...

(He is not as young as my dad)
