Project Lesson 1
London Interviews

Slide 1 - Slide

Today we're going to:
  1. Learn about the project you'll do during the London trip
  2. Brainstorm a topic you're interested in learning about
  3. Form groups of 2-3 people (no, not four!)
  4. Choose a topic together

Slide 2 - Slide

Slide 3 - Video

What did you notice about that video? What is your opinion about it?

Slide 4 - Open question

Your group will also conduct a few interviews with Londoners!
  1. You will write at least 10 interview questions based on your chosen topic
  2. You will record an interview with 2-3 people in London using all your questions each time.
  3. When you arrive back in the Netherlands, you will edit and turn in the video material via Teams.

You will be graded on the quality of your questions, your speech, and your communication - part of that is listening...

Slide 6 - Slide

But what do I ask them?
What are you interested in?

Slide 7 - Slide

Which culture topics from the last few weeks do you remember?

Slide 8 - Open question

What do you remember
about that topic?

Slide 9 - Open question

What more would you like
to know about that topic?

Slide 10 - Open question

Now we are going to choose groups!
  • Think carefully about this - your group member's efforts will affect your grade!  Make groups of 2-3 people (not four!)
  • You also need to agree on a topic. Make sure everyone thinks it's interesting and is OK with the chosen topic.
  • Take 4 minutes to choose group members and sit with them in the classroom. Ask your teacher if you need help.

What is your group's topic?

Slide 13 - Mind map

Research your topic
Start doing some research on your topic with your group and make notes. Your goal is to learn  more about the topic through your research and the interviews you do in London. Your video should start with a short introduction to your topic.

Slide 14 - Slide

Research your topic
While doing your research, ask yourself the following questions:
  • What do you already know about the topic?
  • What do you want to find out about the topic?

Divide the work and make notes that you can use to create a short introduction to your topic.  Save all the information you find!  This introduction will be the first part of your London interview video.

Slide 15 - Slide

Why make an Introduction?
To prepare your listeners about your topic!
Your introduction gives a lot of information. You can let
listeners know what your topic is, why it is important, and
how you plan to discuss it.

Slide 16 - Slide

Video introduction to topic
Requirements

  • Each group prepares a short introduction video to the topic
  • The video should be around 1 minute (20-30 seconds of speaking time per person)
  • The video and script must be handed in before leaving for London

Slide 17 - Slide

What to include in the Introduction video

  • A hook to capture the listener's attention (something that gets them interested)
  • Background information on the topic (based on your research in class)
  • A short, clear statement or point of view and how you plan to tell the listener what's coming next to prove/disprove your statement
