Grammar 10: Demonstrative pronouns
The words this, that, these and those are used when you talk about specific things or people. You are going to learn which word to use when. You can tell from words in the sentence if something is nearby, for instance: (over) here, next to me, right here or further away: (over) there, across the room, behind the counter.

Slide 8 - Slide

When to use the demonstrative pronouns

To decide which demonstrative pronoun you should use, think of these two things:
1. Is the thing nearby or further away?
2. Is the thing singular or plural?

Slide 9 - Slide

Example sentences
This pear in my hand is yellow and that pear over there is green.
(I am talking about 1 pear)

These people right here are listening and those people across the room are not.
(I am talking about people: more than 1)
