There are only three ongoing global conflicts in 2021 that are caused by terrorism.

Terrorism = violence to achieve a political goal.

Armed conflict = Conflict in which more than 25 people die due to violence in that conflict.

Conflicts are classified as follows:
  • international conflicts (Second World War)
  • internal conflicts or civil wars: Rebels within a country fighting the government or each other.
  • internationalised conflicts (conflict in Syria)

Do you call a rebel a freedom fighter or a terrorist?

Terrorism = Using violence for a political purpose.

Terrorists regularly use bomb attacks as type of violence.
