Past Simple

 expressions of time in the past.

 past forms : regular/irregular

His parents married in 2004.                     

I didn't text my friend yesterday.                

Did you miss the bus this morning?          

Past Continuous

- frequently used in sentences together with the Simple Past.  

 WAS/WERE v+ING

while (In this part of the sentence we usually use Past  Continuous).                                                     While we were watching TV, Andy was surfing the internet.

                                                                   

when (with when  we usually use the Simple Past. The Past Continuous is used in the other part of the sentence. ->it is longer)

When I got home, my children were playing.

HAD+ past participle

by the time + past simple

before + past simple

By the time we arrived, they had left the party.
