In this topic you will learn about food chains, molecules in food, the digestive system, combustion inside and outside the body.
p. 45-89
Slide 4 - Slide
TOPIC 2.3: DIGESTION
I know the steps of the digestive system
I know which organs the food goes through and what happens in those organs with the food
I know the three different types of teeth and what they are used for.
I understand the difference between a carnivore, omnivore and herbivore and can recognize them by their teeth

INGESTION
With your mouth you bit and chew your food. You
ingest
the food.
This helps to break your food into smaller pieces and mix it with saliva.
You do this in your
mouth
and with your
teeth.
Food moves onto your
oesophagus
.
Your saliva contains
enzymes
that help to start the digestion of your food.
p.64-66

DIGESTION
Digestion
is the process of breaking
down large molecules into smaller ones.
The organs that do this are called
your
digestive system.
Enzymes
are molecules that help break
down your food.
Most digestion with
enzymes
happens in
the
oesophagus, stomach and small intestine.
The
liver
helps to make a bile, it is stored in your
gall bladder.
This helps break down fats which helps with
digestion.
p.64-66
Slide 8 - Slide
ABSORPTION
After most of the
digestion
is done , the nutrients move on to be
absorbed.
Most nutrients are
absorbed
in the
small intestine.
Water and a few final vitamins are absorbed in the
large intestine.
p.64-66
Slide 9 - Slide
Egestion
Anything your body cannot
absorb
is combined to form
faeces.
(scientific work for poop)
This faeces is moved towards your
rectum
and stored there till you go to the toilet. When it is
egested.
