Part 1: past simple (regular)

Take the verb and add ed to it:

walk --> walked

play --> played

pierce --> pierced

carry --> carried

step --> stepped

nap

dance

dream

study

enjoy

studied

napped

enjoyed

danced

dreamed

Part 2: past simple (irregular)

Some verbs are irregular in the past. 

go --> went

break --> broke 

fall --> fell 

catch --> caught 

etc.
