Foreign bodies / antigens / pathogens: substances that do not belong in your body.

First barriers:

• Skin,
• Mucous layer + cilia.

Substances that don't belong in your body can cause an infection.

Pathogens activate your immune system -> white blood cells.

Pathogens are mainly bacteria and viruses.

The immune system recognizes viruses and other pathogens by their antigens.

Some white blood cells destroy pathogens by closing them in. 

Other types destroy pathogens by antibodies.
