So how do we make the Past Simple?

Basic rule: add -ed after the verb. (Voeg -ed toe achter de stam)

Signal words like yesterday, last week, and three days ago show that something has happened in the past.

I played football with him three days ago.
a long time ago, I visited Grandma.
I wanted to meet him yesterday.


TIP: These signal words can be at the beginning of a sentence, or at the end!

  1. to talk: I talked to Jim this morning.
  2. to watch: We watched the match yesterday.
  3. to play: She played with her brother.
  4. to walk: Last week, they walked towards the forest.

It's good to remember that it does not matter if it's I, you, we, he, she, it. You always add -ed after the verb.
