Prefixes

Prefixes zijn groepjes letters die je voor een woord kunt zetten. 

Ze veranderen de betekenis.

Prefixes die 'niet' of het tegenovergestelde betekenen:

 non- / un- / im- / il- / in- / ir- / dis-.

sense, used, possible, legal, compatible, responsible, appear

nonsense, unused, impossible, illegal, incompatible, irresponsible, disappear

dog - dogs

duck - ducks

Prefixes

Re- betekent:  nog een keer of terug

act, play, turn

react, replay, return

Mis- betekent: verkeerd of niet 

place, understand

misplace, misunderstand

! Dis– is also used to give a word an opposite or negative meaning.

Now think of some suffixes

Suffixes

Suffixes zijn een groepje letters die achter een woord worden gezet. DIt veranderd de betekenis van het woord.

To talk about ‘the person that does the action’, you add -er.

teach, rap

teacher, rapper

Other suffixes

To change a verb into a noun, you add -ing / -ment.

We move a lot to stay healthy. - This climate movement is very powerful.

I love to write short stories. - Do you like this piece of writing?

Other suffixes

–er: 

You already know this suffix to create a comparative. It can also be used for a person or thing that does an action.

fast – faster 

slow – slower 

teach – teacher 

Other suffixes

To change an adverb or adjective into a noun, you add -ness.

That actress seems friendly. - Those people are known for their friendliness.

This is a really sad story. - I saw sadness in her eyes.
