Slide 8 - Slide

1. List 3 causes of sports-related injuries
  1. Accidents: like a fall, hard blow
  2. Not warming up
  3. Using wrong equipment/techniques

Slide 9 - Slide

 2. What makes sprains and dislocated bones similar, but also what makes them different.
Similarities
  • Both are joint injuries
  • A joint is stretched/bent beyond its limits

Differences
  • Sprains happen more often
  • Dislocated bones are more painful
  • Ligaments might tear in sprains, are torn in dislocated bones
  • Bones are much further apart in a dislocated bone
  • A doctor is always needed with a dislocated bone

Slide 10 - Slide

3. A soccer knee might end the career of a soccer player, explain why
A soccer knee is a serious joint injury. The cartilage in the knee tears.
It is not always possible to repair/replace the damaged cartilage.
It this is the case, the athlete will no longer be able to play soccer

Slide 11 - Slide

4. You can pull a muscle and fracture a bone.
How can these injuries heal and which will take the longest?
A pulled muscle has been (slightly) torn.
The muscle will swell and sometimes bleed. Muscle-cells will need to rebuild the muscle.

A fractured bone is broken.
The bone tissue will need to be rebuilt. (this can be helped with a cast).

Repairing bone tissue takes longer than repairing muscle tissue

Slide 12 - Slide

5. Name 3 things that can reduce the risk of injuries.
  • Doing a warming-up before doing sports
  • Stretching before and/or after doing sports
  • Doing a cooling-down after doing sports
  • Doing sports at your own level
  • Being mindful of your techniques
  • Getting enough rest
