Here’s a sample answer:

In his book Mummy, James Putnam (1993) explains that Egyptians began using a natural salt on the bodies, because it helped them dry up without rotting (p. 14).

Here’s another possibility:

To prevent the bodies from rotting, Egyptians began using a natural salt called natron to dry them (Putnam, 1993, p. 14).
