Spellingsregels
Het werkwoord eindigt op een -e
(bv. to like)
Zet er alleen nog een -D achter
She liked
Het werkwoord eindight op een -L
(bv. to travel)
Verdubbel de -L
We travelled
Het werkwoord heeft één lettergreep en eindigt op een medeklinker met daarvoor een korte klinker 
(bv. to stop)
Verdubbel de laatste letter
They stopped
Het werkwoord eindigt op -y
(bv. to study)
De -y valt weg en wordt -IED
She studied

Spellingsregels
Werkwoord dat eindigt op een stomme -e (bv. to come)
De -e valt weg als je er -ing achter plakt
coming
Werkwoord van één lettergreep met een korte klinker voor de medeklinker (bv. to stop)
De medeklinker wordt verdubbeld als je er -ing achter plakt
stopping
Werkwoord dat eindigt op een -L
(bv. to travel)
De -L wordt verdubbeld als je er -ing achter plakt
travelling
Werkwoord dat eindigt op -ie 
(bv. to lie)
De -ie verandert naar -y
lying

Wanneer gebruik je welke tijd?
Je gebruikt de past simple bij dingen die gebeurd zijn in het verleden en nu voorbij zijn / een feit in het verleden
Signaalwoorden: in 2004, yesterday, last week, 12 years ago

Je gebruikt de past continuous bij dingen die in het verleden een tijdje aan de gang waren (was/waren aan het ... / zat/zaten te ...)
Signaalwoorden: when, while, as long as
