De 'Turkey Pardon' is een traditie in America waarbij de president twee 'uitverkoren' kalkoenen 'spaart'. Deze worden dus niet opgegeten tijdens Thanksgiving, maar gaan naar een dierenopvang. Het evenement wordt gezien als de officiële start van de Thanksgiving feestdagen. Het staat symbool voor het dankbaar zijn voor de oogst.
Er worden twee kalkoenen gekozen voor de ceremonie en de dieren worden van te voren 'getraind' om in de schijnwerpers te staan. De traditie is dat de president de twee kalkoenen een naam geeft. Een paar dagen voordat de ceremonie plaatsvindt reizen de kalkoenen af naar Washington en verblijven daar in een luxe hotel.
