When to use the present perfect continuous:
Something has started in the past and it is still going on:
- My father has been painting since 9 o'clock.
Something has been going on for too long in your opinion; something isn't finished yet:
- They have been waiting for hours.
- Sue has been watching TV all morning.
- I have been working very hard for this assignment, but it's not finished yet.
Something has been happening more often lately:
- People have been phoning me all day.
- It has been raining a lot since January.
