Gerund

Gebruik een Werkwoord als zelfstandig naamwoord. 

Bijvoorbeeld:

Skiing is my favourite hobby.

Walking my dog is something I love to do. 

Een Gerund komt nooit na een vorm van to be (bijvoorbeeld I am loving this view). Dan is het geen gerund maar een WW. 

Past simple

In het verleden begonnen en in het verleden afgerond. Kijk goed naar woorden in de zin zoals, Last year, in 1996, on Monday last week. Dit is (bijna) altijd een past simple. Tenzij in de zin naar voren komt dat het nog invloed heeft. 

Zorg ervoor dat je de onregelmatige vormen kent! Dit komt terug in de toets. 

Past simple vs present perfect

Past simple: verleden tijd. Geen invloed meer (zie vorige pagina). I walked my dog yesterday. He broke his knee in 1996.

Dus: ww + ed (of onregelmatige vorm)

Present perfect: begonnen in het verleden en heeft nog steeds invloed. Bijvoorbeeld: I have broken my knee yesterday and now it is in a cast

Dus: have/has + voltooid deelwoord

Direct and indirect speech

Bij indirect speech verander je het, het werkwoord, voornaamwoord en de tijdsaanduiding in de zin. Bijvoorbeeld:

Trish: 'We don't like shopping.'

Trish said (that) they didn't like shopping.

Paula: 'I did my homework last Friday.'

Paula said (that) she had done her homework the Friday before.'
