1. Skeeter on a date with Stuart

• excited
• Hair fixed, she has a job => feels confident. 
• late because her brother has come home for a visit and brought his girlfriend, her mom makes her stay 

2. unlikely match

• Stuart: wealthy, experienced, good looking +comes from an influential family. 
• Skeeter: not attractive by conventional standards +no dating experience. 

3. What goes wrong on the date?

• Skeeter: drives a truck that smells of fertilizer to the date + late + no makeup on

• Stuart has begun drinking while waiting
  + continues at the restaurant. 

=> rude + lack of respect 

4. What news does Skeeter receive?

• Aibileen tells Skeeter that she will participate in the book project. 

5. What changes Aibileen's mind?

•  “Miss Hilly.” -> responsible for separate restroom in the Leefolt house and for Minny’s firing.

6. Skeeter realizes something significant.

• She will be hearing (negative) stories about her friends. (Hilly in particular)

Chapter 10: Minny

1. Aibileen's complaints

• Maids are too scared to ask for minimum wage.

• don't receive Social Security pay.

• White employers use vulgar language in reference to the help.

• The children, raised and loved by maids and loving them in return, grow up having the same racial prejudices as their parents have

2. Celia confuses and bothers Minny

• Celia has some sort of physical or emotional problem: is lying down a lot. 
• Minny is bothered by the irrationality and lack of explanation for Celia’s behaviour.

3. Minny meets Johnny.

• (Johnny: walks in with an axe in his hand; Minny alone in the house)
• He has known for a while that someone has been working for Celia and doing the cooking -> the food suddenly got a lot better
• =>  Johnny approves of her presence in the house. 

4. Minny's reasons not to help Skeeter

• Too risky (might lose her job) 
• + Skeeter is also Hilly’s friend...
