  • In affirmative sentences with negations like never, without, hardly etc. we use any instead of some.

  1. Some and any can be combined with -thing, -body, -one, -where, etc.
  2. Then they mean: “iets”, “iemand” or “ergens”. The rules stay the same!

  • I need to tell you something.
  • Can somebody help me, please?
  • Is there someone who’d like another slice of pie?
  • The keys must be here somewhere, right?
  • He doesn’t want to have anything to do with you anymore.
  • I don’t know anyone at this party.
  • Have you seen my purse anywhere?
