Which sentences with a future tense or future verb forms have you heard?
There are 4 forms.

• Vorm van TO BE (am / are / is) + going to + werkwoord
• Present continuous
• Present simple

am/ are/ is + going to + stam

Wanneer? 

- Als iets al gepland staat

I am going to visit Bob tomorrow.

- Je hebt bewijs/je ziet dat iets gaat gebeuren

I can see that it is going to rain.

Will/shall + stam

Will: Wanneer? 

- Als je iets besluit op het moment van spreken.

"Hey, there is no milk." I will get some milk.

- Bij een wens, veronderstelling, belofte, aanbod, verzoek of voorspelling. 

Shall: Wanneer? 

- Bij vraagzinnen met als onderwerp I en we.

Present simple

Wanneer? 

Als iets gaat gebeuren volgens een vast tijdschema 

The train leaves at 13.00 pm.

Vorm: 

stam of stam + s

don't + stam of doesn't + stam

Do + stam of Does + stam

Present continuous

Wanneer? 

Dingen die al gepland zijn en vrijwel zeker gaan gebeuren.

Tommy is visiting his grandmother tomorrow.

Dingen die al vaststaan, door een ander geregeld. 

Dingen die op een bepaald moment in de toekomst bezig zullen zijn 

Beloftes, voorspellingen zonder bewijs, dingen die je nu beslist en meteen gaat doen. 

Gebeurtenissen in de toekomst waarvoor al dingen geregeld / afgesproken zijn 

Plannen zonder dat er iets geregeld is, voorspellingen met bewijs

Dus: 

Gaat het over reistijden, vertrektijden of gebeurtenissen die vast staan? Present simple. 

Zijn er al dingen geboekt, geregeld, betaald, afgesproken? Present continuous. 

Zijn het plannen, of voorspellingen waar je bewijs voor hebt? Going to - future 

Zijn het beloftes, voorspellingen zonder bewijs, dingen die nu beslist worden en meteen gebeuren? Future with will. 

Zal het op een bepaald moment in de toekomst aan de gang zijn? Present Continuous

• Work in groups of three or four  
• Use the digital Story Cubes: https://rpg.nathanhare.net/storygen
• Divide the cubes equally
• One person controls a timer
• Roll the dice (only one at a time) 
• Talk about the object on the cube for thirty seconds
• Use at least 2 of the 4 Future tenses
• Then the next person rolls the dice and continues the story
