Adjectives & Adverbs

Adjectives:
- describe people and things
- placed before a noun or pronoun (form pairs with nouns)
- describe a quantity before nouns (ex. sixteen candles)

- placed after 'to be' or linking verbs.
Sense verb: to feel, to taste, to smell, to become, to seem etc.
Ex. He seems happy. He seems quiet

1. A great show. (adj. describes noun)
2. The pizza tasted great. (linking verb+adj.)
3. The dog is asleep. (linking verb + ajd.)
4. Linda felt ill. (linking verb+ adj.)
5. The former prime minister was cool. (adj. describes noun)

Adverbs
- Describe a verb, adjective, or another adverb.
- Time, manner, place, degree.
- Often end in -ly. 
- Answer the questions:
1. How?            2. Where?
3. When?        4. How much?
5. How often?

Some adverbs mean something else if you add -ly:

1. She worked very hard.   
2. She hardly worked. (adverb means= almost never)

1. He is working late tonight.
2. Have you seen him lately? (adverb means= recently)

Frequent = adjective. 
Describes something that happens often.

Frequently = adverb
Often. Answer the question how often?
