10 minutes:

The students watch Newsround. Afterward, they get 2 minutes to discuss the news in pairs. I will use a timer to show the students exactly how much time is left, this way the students know when to focus on me again. After the timer has stopped, I ask the students a few questions about what they had seen on the news.

B
Something that is happening right now.

After the news, we will start with the actual lesson. I revise the present simple with a quick quiz on how to use it and the rules. I will be able to see how many students have answered incorrectly. If any students answered incorrectly, I will give an extra explanation on that question. I have decided to use a quiz as it is a fun and engaging way to get the students thinking.

15 minutes:

To round of this first part of the lesson, I play the 'yes, I do' game with the students. One student comes in front of the class, the other students ask (present simple) questions and try to make them say 'yes, i do ...'. The student that gets them to say that, will switch places with them. I've decided to play this game as the students are actively creating present simple questions and sentences in an engaging activity.

Slide 13 - Slide

5 minutes:

After the break, I start with the second part of the lesson. I first start the lesson by checking the homework the students had received in the last lesson. I do this by giving the students the answers and asking them how many questions they had right. I have decided to this, as this is the way the students are used to checking homework with my mentor teacher.

Slide 14 - Slide

10 minutes:

I introduce the new chapter which is about adverbs of frequency. I first ask the student what they think adverbs of frequency are based on this slide before explaining the difference between each.

Slide 15 - Slide

10 minutes:

After explaining the difference between each of the adverbs, I explain how to use them in a sentence. To get the students to practice, I ask them to write two sentences with two of the adverbs. Afterward, I give a few students a turn to read out their sentences.

Slide 16 - Link

8 minutes:

To check their knowledge of the adverbs of frequency, I have them play a Kahoot. By doing this I am able to see how many students understand the material and if anything needs extra explanation.
Finished? Grab a worksheet or study on Learnbeat

Slide 17 - Slide

15 minutes:

The students get the last 15 minutes of the lesson to work on their homework for the next lesson. I first quickly explain each of the exercises to them and ask if there are any questions. If the students are finished they can choose between studying with a worksheet or on LearnBeat. I've decided to add worksheet as some students might prefer a different way of studying the material.
