'De' en 'Het' vertaal je allebei naar "the"

Je gebruikt "the" als je  naar iets specifieks verwijst (the bike = de fiets)

"The" heeft 2 uitspraken:

(thuh - ðə) bij medeklinkers: the boy

(thie - ðiː) bij klinkers: the apple

'Een' vertaal je naar "a" of "an"

An gebruik je wanneer het woord in de uitspraak begint met een klinker:

A gebruik je wanneer het woord in de uitspraak begint met een medeklinker:

Geen Lidwoord 

Soms gebruik je geen a of an

Dit is bijvoorbeeld bij:

• Namen (England, Christmas) 
• play + een spel (play football, play tennis)
• meervouden (dogs, boys) 

Geen Lidwoord 

Bij instellingen als hospital, school, prison, college, university, church gebruik je geen 'the' als je denkt aan het gebruik van de gebouwen, en niet aan de gebouwen zelf:

- We go to church every week.

- Do you go to school?

- He is in hospital now.

- He is in prison. 

Je gebruikt wel "the" als je echt het gebouw bedoelt:

- We have been waiting at the hospital all morning.

- I am at the school. I am visiting my uncle.

Present continuous

De present continuous is  een tegewoordige tijd.

Wanneer gebruik je de present continuous?

Je gebruikt de present continous als iets nu gebeurt.

Present Continuous

• We gebruiken de present continuous wanneer we het hebben over NU.
  
• Actie die langer duurt.

• Ik ben nu aan het werken.
  
• I am working now.

Present Continuous

Let op!

• Change -e to -ing when the verb ends with -e.

Ride --> riding

• Verdubbel de medeklinker (vowel) aan het einde als een werkwoord 1 lettergreep is (sit, run, swim, etc.)

Sit --> sitting
Run --> running
