Comparisons (vergelijkingen)

1 lettergreep: woord +er (vergrotende trap), woord +est (overtreffende trap)

2 lettergrepen of meer: more + woord (vergrotende trap), most + woord (overteffende trap)

Let op!

- Bij woorden van één lettergreep die eindigen op a/e/i/o/u en een medeklinker wordt de laatste letter verdubbeld + -er of -est.

- Als een woord al eindigt op een -e, hoeft er alleen nog maar -r/ -st achter 

nice-nicer-nicest  

- Woorden van 2 lettergrepen die eindigen op -y, krijgen vaak -ier en -iest      happy- happier-happiest

- Bij woorden van 2 lettergrepen die eindigen op le, er, ow (en een paar andere uitzonderingen) mag je kiezen: -er en -est of more en most. (simpler of more simple)

Let op!

- Bij vergelijkingen than gebruiken, niet then.

My shoes are more expensive than your shoes.

- Is iets even zo veel/groot/sterk/etc.? Gebruik as ....... as.

My shoes are as expensive as your shoes.

- Leer de uitzonderingen! (p. 128)

Optie 1: ow + hele werkwoord, bij I / you / we / they

Optie 2: ow + hele werkwoord + s, bij she / he / it  (SHIT-rule)

How do we use it (ontkennend)?

Optie 1: ow + do not/ don't + hele ww, bij I / you / we / they

Optie 2: ow + does not/ doesn't + hele ww, bij she / he / it  (SHIT-rule)

How do we use it (vragend)?

Optie 1: Do + ow + hele werkwoord, bij I / you / we / they

Optie 2: Does + ow + hele werkwoord, bij she / he / it (SHIT-rule)

Let op! does en doesn't geven al SHIT-rule aan dus geen s achter het ww bij vragen en ontkenning!

Uitzondering 1: werkwoorden die eindigen op een sisklank 

( -s, -z, -sh, -ch en -x) of to do / to go

Uitzondering 2: Werkwoorden die eindigen op -y met een medeklinker (k,l,m,r etc) ervoor  

> Voeg -ies toe in plaats van -s bij he/she/it!

Present continuous

Stap 1: Wanneer present continuous?

Als iets nu bezig is (op het moment dat je erover praat of schrijft) gebruik je de present continuous.

Voorbeelden van hoe je dat aan een zin zou kunnen zien: (right) now, at the moment, Look!, Watch!, Listen! (je wilt namelijk dat iemand nu, meteen naar je luistert of ergens naar kijkt).

Voeg ww + ing toe: I am working, you are watching, she is carrying
