Astronomical seasons (oficially): the sun is in a special position in the sky. So, the seasons can start in the middle of a month and end in the middle of another month, based on how the sun shines down on us!
  • Spring starts when the day and night are the same length, around the 20th of March, and ends when we have the longest day, around the 21st of June.

  • Summer begins on this long day, the 21st of June, and finishes when the day and night are the same length again, around the 22nd of September.

  • Autumn (or Fall) starts then, on the 22nd of September, and ends when we have the shortest day, around the 21st of December.

  • Winter begins on this short day, the 21st of December, and goes until the day and night are the same length again, around the 20th of March.
Meteorological seasons (simplify): Imagine the year is like a big circle, and we can divide this circle into four equal parts. Each part is one season, and each season is like a big box that fits three whole months. These seasons start at the beginning of each month and end at the end of the third month, like boxes on a shelf!
  • Spring is when flowers start to bloom, and it has March, April, and May.

  • Summer is when it's very hot, and we can go to the beach. It includes June, July, and August.

  • Autumn (or fall) is when leaves fall from the trees, and it has September, October, and November.

  • Winter is when it's very cold, and sometimes it snows. This season has December, January, and February.
