Genitive gebruik

Genitive wordt meestal gebruikt om een bezit aan te duiden:

Nederlands:

Moeders boormachine, mijn auto, haar tas, etc.

Engels:	Patrick’s family, their client’s wishes, our first
	meeting, etc.

 

Zelfstandig naamwoord en namen in enkelvoud:

's komt na het zelfstandig naamwoord : 

Adam's bike

Beethhoven's fifth

My dog's tail

Today's news

Her dress is nice.
My sister's dress is nice.

His bike is new.

My brother's bike is new.

Woord (e.v.) dat eindigt op -s

Bij namen in het enkelvoud die eindigen op -s, komt de apostrof na de laatste letter van het woord en voor de -s.

Plural nouns

Bij zelfstandige naamwoorden en namen in het meervoud komt de apostrof na de meervoudsvorm. Engelse meervouden eindigen meestal op een -s.

Plural nouns without 's'
