Past simple

• Past simple: iets dat in de verleden tijd is gebeurd en is geëindigd.

Past Continuous

• Past continuous: iets dat in het verleden een tijd heeft geduurd.
• Example: My sister and I were crying because the hero died.

Past simple vs. past continuous

• Past continuous: iets is in het verleden bezig
• Past simple: toen iets anders gebeurde
• Hetgeen dat dus als eerste gebeurt (en een tijdje duurt) krijgt de past continuous
  
  
• Example:
  She was writing a letter when the phone rang.
