At the end of this lesson you know how to use negative questions. 

Gebruik

Ontkennende vragen gebruik je om:
- te vragen om bevestiging.
- ergernis of ongeloof uit te drukken.

Zet de ontkenning vooraan:

Don't you like music? (bevestiging)

Didn't you hear me? (bevestiging/ergernis?

Can't you just be quiet? (ergernis)

Haven't you tried this before? (ongeloof)

Hoe te gebruiken

- Als een zin een vorm van to be heeft (am, are, is, was, were) of have got/has got of een ander hulpwerkwoord
> zet dit werkwoord vooraan + not
He can help me with my homework:
Can't he help me with my homework?

It is his dream to become a famous actor:
Isn't it his dream to become a famous actor?

Negative questions

To be: Isn't/aren't/wasn't/weren't

 

She is funny.

Isn't she funny?

They are busy.

Aren't they busy?

Negative questions

To have: Haven't/hasn't/hadn't 

He has a dog.

Hasn't he got a dog?

They have a tiny house.

Haven't they got busy?

Negative questions

Hulpwerkwoorden: 

Can - could - should - would - might - must - am - is - are - was - were

• Can't/couldn't (cannot/ could not)
• Shouldn't (should not)
• Wouldn't (would not)

Hoe te gebruiken

Staan er andere werkwoorden in zin
> don't/ doesn't gebruiken bij ontkennende vragen in de tegenwoordige tijd.
> didn't bij vragen in de verleden tijd.

Daarna volgt het onderwerp en het hele werkwoord.

Negative questions

• I visited the grand canyon.
• Didn't you visit the grand canyon?

• They have tickets for the concert.
• Don't they have tickets for the concert.

Belangrijk: de TENSE verandert niet.

Make a negative question of:
I am happy that I told the truth

1. Has I not happy that I told the truth?
2. Aren't you happy that you told the truth?
3. I'm not happy that I told the truth
4. Am I not happy that I told the truth?

Again: make a negative question of:
I am pleased to see you

1. Aren't you pleased to see me?
2. You aren't pleased to see me?
3. I am not pleased to see you?
4. I pleased not to see you?

Make a negative question of:
Aram has got a brother named Tom

1. Aram has not got a brother called Tom?
2. Has Aram a brother named Tom?
3. Tom hasn't got a brother named Aram?
4. Hasn't Aram got a brother named Tom?

Make a negative question of:
They are too young to visit the cinema on their own

1. Aren't they too young to visit the cinema on their own?
2. They aren't too young to visit the cinema on their own?
3. Isn't they too young to visit the cinema on their own?
4. On their own the are too young to visit the cinema?

make this negative:

Is that your puppy?

1. I don't like your puppy.
2. that's your puppy, isn't it?
3. Isn't that your puppy?
4. The puppy is dead.

Make this sentence negative:
Do you know the answer?

1. Yes
2. No
3. Doesn't you knows the answer?
4. Don't you know the answer?

Make this sentence negative:

Remember:

1. Hulpwerkwoorden komen aan het begin van de zin + not.
2. Geen hulpwerkwoord? Dan gebruik je
Don't / doesn't / didn't
